A password-protected directory or area is a folder which could be accessed only when a username and a password are entered, so no unauthorized individuals may look at its content. This feature can be used for the primary folder of a particular site or just for a certain subfolder in accordance with the needs you have. For instance, if you are creating a new website and you do not want people to see it before it is ready, you have to prohibit the access to it as a whole, whereas if you need only some people to be able to access certain files, you may password-protect only a particular folder, while the rest of the website can be seen by anyone. Either way, a “403 Forbidden” error page will appear if the login details the visitor enters aren't right. Even a direct link to a file won't work if any folder above it is password-protected.

Password Protected Directories in Cloud Hosting

Setting up a password-protected area will take no more than a couple of clicks and a few seconds if you host your websites in a cloud hosting account with our company. You'll not need to do anything complex - you'll have to choose a domain/subdomain, to pick which folder under it should be secured, and then to type the login name and password which will be used to access that folder. In case a number of individuals require their own login details, there will not be a problem to set up a variety of different usernames with access to the same exact folder. All secured folders will appear with a padlock icon within the File Manager section, so you shall always know where this option is activated. If you'd like to disable the protection function for any folder, you can disable it from the same section of the CP in which you have enabled it.

Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Hosting

When you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you'll be able to secure any content that you've uploaded through our protection tool. Its interface is as simple and intuitive as that of the Hepsia CP it's part of, so you'll not have to enter any code at any time. You will only need to select one of the domains/subdomains you have in the web hosting account and to pick which folder has to be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. After that you can type the username and the password, that'll be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you'll be ready. The protection shall be turned on at once, so anyone who attempts to access the freshly secured folder will have to input the accurate login information. In case various individuals must be able to open the exact same content, you could make a separate username for each one.
